The Australian Youth Aerospace Association’s (AYAA) Rocket Project is a volunteer run project which gives students all over Australia the opportunity to become Rocket Engineers for a day. It is designed to showcase both the theoretical and practical applications of modern rocketry.
Aerospace engineers are tasked with, among other things, the design of rockets to deliver a payload and return it safely to the ground. Students will work together in groups to design, construct and launch a solid fuel model rocket. The workshop teaches concepts such as analysing and balancing forces, aerodynamics, differential equations and decision-making. Activity content can be modified to suit lower year levels wishing to participate in the activity, or unit-specific study areas relating to aerospace.
Please note that this project is aimed towards high school students. If you are looking for the university project, please visit the Australian University Rocketry Challenge page.
